MSA is a kind of neurological condition where multiple cerebral nerve tissues have gotten affected, including the cerebellum (MSA-C type, resulting in balance disturbance), vegetable nerve system (MSA-A type, resulting in Orthostatic Hypotension, urinary function disturbance, heart function disturbance), brain stem and basal ganglia (MSA-P type, resulting in Parkinson-like symptoms). The cerebral cortex would get affected at relatively later stage, resulting in cognitive function decline. It is a progressive disease. The number of nerve cells in the brain gradually decreased. When the number of cells decreased to a certain level, the disease will progress faster and the brain atrophy will appear in imaging.
Since the brain neurons cannot regenerate themselves, once damaged, there has been no effective treatment for that before (No treatment can stop the development of the disease).
In recent years, Wu Medical Center (WMC) has found that supplying neural stem cells to directly increase the quantity of neural cells in brain can hardly repair the neural damage caused by the disease. Because only 10% of the implanted neural stem cells could survive and work properly in the body if there were no proper medication support, because even the newly implanted healthy neural stem cells would still get affected by the pathological internal environment caused by the disease. With the help of proper medication controlling, since the neural stem cells carry normal genes, they can express normal functions and produce normal proteins with normal structures, which can replace the functions of the abnormal proteins caused by patients’ gene mutations, and decrease the accumulation of inclusions inside neurons and oligodendrocytes. This kind of treatment can partly restore neural functions, and slow down the disease progress for MSA, Parkinson's disease, and a series of degenerative diseases. But it is not easy to locate those neural stem cells to their right place to fulfill their functions. Based on an almost 10-year research, Wu Medical Center has developed its unique in-vivo stem cells locating and controlling techs to remarkably increase those implanted neural stem cells’ locating, differentiating, and surviving ratio, so as to improve those stem cells’ survival time and working efficiency in patients’ body, and remarkably improve patients’ life quality. Many patients with MSA treated by Wu Medical Center have a life span of more than 10 years, and some of them still have a certain working capacity maintained.
