Before treatment:
The patient is a premature infant and born at the 28th week of pregnancy. The weight was 2.3Kg at the time of birth. He suffered from virus infection few days after birth. He was kept in incubator for more than 1 month. His weight was reduced to 1.2Kg. He also suffered from severe jaundice. He received blue light therapy and oxygen therapy for 60 days. After treatment, his condition improved. The family member found that the patient had vision disorder when he was 6 months old. He was diagnosed with Eyes retinopathy of premature (V degrees) bilateral eyeball atrophy, left phthisis bulbi. His left eye was blind. The right eye's vision declined obviously. He could distinguish the fingers from a distance of 10cm. He was unable to distinguish colors.

From the onset of disease, the patient's spirit was normal. The development, diet and sleep were normal. The urine and defecation were normal. The patient had no family or genetic disease. The patient suffered from cold. He had nasal congestion, rhinorrhoea, cough and expectoration. There was no fever, nausea or vomit.

Admission PE:
Bp: 100/65mmHg; Hr: 102/min, Br: 20/min. Height: 132cm, weight: 27Kg. The patient's development and nutrition were normal. The mucosa was intact, with no petechia or yellow stains. There was congestion in pharyngeal, the tonsil was moderately swollen. The thorax was symmetrical; the respiratory sounds of both lungs were clear, with no dry or moist rales. The heart sounds were strong, the rhythm was regular, and there was no obvious murmur in the valve area. The abdomen was flat and soft, with no masses. Through palpation, the liver and spleen were found to be normal.

Nervous System Examination: 
Sebastian Ezequiel Farias was alert and his speech was clear. His memory and orientation were normal. The diameter of right pupil was 3.0mm. He had slow response with light reflex. Left pupil had leukoma, vitreous opacities. There was no light reflex in left pupil. Right eye could distinguish light and fingers from 10cm.He could distinguish big outline from 1 meter. He couldn't distinguish colors. Both eyes could move free to each sides. There was horizontal nystagmus. Under the ophthalmoscope: (both eyeballs had tremor, the examination of fundus was not clear) the volume of both eyeballs was small. The optic disk of left eye bitemporal was pale. The blood vessel was thinner than normal. Right fundus was presented with slight yellow. The proportion of right fundus was normal. The forehead wrinkle pattern was symmetrical, the nasolabial sulcus was equal in depth, the teeth were symmetrical and the tongue was centered in the oral cavity. There was flexible movement in the neck. The muscle tone of all four limbs was normal; the muscle strength of all four limbs was at level 5. The tendon reflex of four limbs was normal. The abdominal reflexes were normal. The pathological reflex was negative. He had normal deep and shallow sensation. The coordinate examination was normal. 
  
Treatment: 
We gave Sebastian Ezequiel Farias a complete examination. According to the medical history, clinical manifestation and auxiliary examination, he was diagnosed with retinopathy. He received treatment for retinal repair, optic nerve repair and optic nerve regeneration. He received treatment to improve the blood circulation in order to increase the blood supply, nourish the damaged neurons and activate the stem cells in vivo. He also received treatment to boost his immunity.

Post-treatment:
The patient's pupils have more sensitive reflex to light stimulus. The cornea and vitreous opacities in left eye is alleviated obviously. Left eye's light sensation is more sensitive than before. His left eye has been restored partially and so there is some vision including color vision. He could distinguish fingers from a distance of 20cm. Right eye could distinguish fingers from 45cm. The chromatic discrimination power is better than before. Due to better vision now, the patient can keep away from barrier. At the same time, the patient's vision field has enlarged. He could distinguish bright-colored objects from tens of meters at night. He can distinguish some figures and colors.

 He had upper respiratory infection symptoms, such as cough, rhinorrhoea and itchy throat. The patient took antibiotic for 1 week, then his symptoms were alleviated. At present, both pupils have sensitive reflex to light reflex. The round color of left pupil is clearer than before. The milky white sediment has been alleviated. Right eye can distinguish fingers from 45cm and the color recognition ability has increased. Left eye has more sensitivity to light sensation. His left eye has been restored and can achieve some vision including color vision. His left eye can distinguish fingers from a distance of20cm. There is some restoration of vision, so he can avoid obstacles in a more sensitive manner. At the same time, he has a wider visual field. He can distinguish bright-colored objects from 10 meters at night. He can partly distinguish bright objects in flat surface and in pictures.

The second round treatment:

Before treatment:
The patient was born prematurely at 28th week of gestation. His birth weight: 2.3kg. He was taking to hospital because of viral infection some days after he was born. He stayed in an incubator and was treated for more than one month (the viral infection type or treatment were unknown). He lost weight of about 1.1kg. He had serious icterus so he was exposed to blue light and was oxygenated for 60 days. He was sent home after he became better. When he was 6 months, his family members realized that he had visual disturbance and so he was given full examinations. He was diagnosed with “eyes retinopathy of premature (V degrees), bilateral eyeball atrophy, and left phthisis bulbi”. His left eye could not see and his right eye vision obviously decreased. He could see fingers but not colors from the distance of 10cm. The patient came to our hospital to have stem cells treatment. After that, his left eye had slight light sensation, improved vision and color sensation. His right eye could see fingers from farther distance and color discrimination was better. He wants to have a better treatment, so he came to our hospital again and he was diagnosed with Premature Eyes retinopathy.

He was in good spirit and growth. His sleeping, eating, urination and excrement were good.

The muscle strength of all four limbs was almost at level 5. The tendon reflex of four limbs was normal. The abdominal reflexes was normal. The pathological reflex was negative. He had normal deep and shallow sensation. The coordinated examination was normal.

Under the ophthalmoscope: The volume of both eyeballs was small. The ground of right eye was light red. The macular area was clear. AV ratio was normal. The ground of left eye was light red. The optic disk was visible. The boundary of macular area was not clear. At present, Sebastian Ezequiel Farias’s treatment plan has been completed and his discharge has been permitted.
