Before treatment:
10 year ago, the patient’s family realized that he couldn’t see object at long distance, while the other children at the same age could. When he watched TV, he would be closer than normal; he couldn’t see objects in the dark, such as under the bed. He was diagnosed as Retinitis Pigmentosa 6 years ago, untreated. He wears corrected glasses now. Both of his eyes has visual field defect. He has tubular visual field. He can’t see objects clearly. His color discrimination is bad. He wants a further treatment, so he comes to our medical center.

His spirit was good, his weight and diet were normal. His sleep, urine and stool were normal.

Admission PE:
Bp: 119/69mmHg; Hr: 83/min. His growth and nutrition were normal; his skin mucosa was without hemorrhaging spots or yellow stains. His thorax was symmetrical. The respiration of both lungs was clear, without moist rales. The heart sound was low and dull, and the cardiac rhythm was regular. There was no obvious murmur in the valves. The abdomen was flat and soft, with no masses. The liver and spleen were normal.

Nervous System Examination:
He was alert and his speech was clear. His memory, orientation and calculation ability were normal. Both eyes were equal in size and round, the diameter was 3.0mms, he was sensitive to direct and indirect light reflex. Both of his eyes couldn’t see together. 3 meters corrected visual acuity of both eyes was 0.4. 1.5 meter naked vision of both eyes was 0.08. He had visual field defect and he had tubular visual field. Left eye: up vision field was 20 degrees. Down vision field was 30 degrees. Temporal visual field was 70 degrees. Right eye: up vision field was 10 degrees. Down vision field was 20 degrees. Temporal visual field was 70 degree. It was difficult for him to discriminate similar colors. He had no nystagmus. Fundus examination: left: The color of left fundus was light orange; AV ratio was 2:3. There were more black lees in quadrant than other areas. The macular area and optic papilla were clear to see. Right: The color of right fundus was light orange, AV ratio was 2:3, there were black floccus lees on ambitus. The macular area and optic papilla were clear to see. The forehead wrinkle pattern was symmetrical. The nasolabial sulcus was equal in depth. The teeth were symmetrical and the tongue was centered.  His neck was soft; he can shrug his shoulder powerfully. The muscle strength of all four limbs was at level 5. The muscle tension was normal. His four limbs and trunk had deep and shallow sensation. The abdominal reflex was normal. The tendon reflex was normal. The pathological sign was negative. The meningeal irritation sign was negative.

Treatment:
He was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. He received four times of neural stem cell injection and four times of mesenchymal stem cell injection. He also received treatment to initiate nerve repair and regeneration. He had treatment to nourish neurons, improve circulation and adjust immune function. We also gave him daily physical rehabilitation to improve the movement function.

Post-treatment:
After the treatment, his vision has been improved. His vision field has been widened. He felt he could see objects more clearly. His 3 meters corrected visual acuity was 0.5, right eye was 0.6, and left eye was 0.8. His 3 meters naked vision was 0.3, right was 0.15, and left eye was 0.25. Left eye: Up vision field was 30 degrees. Down vision field was 40 degrees. Temporal visual field was 70 degrees. Right eye: Up vision field was 20 degrees. Down vision field was 30 degrees. Temporal visual field was 70 degrees.
