Mayra Noemi Roselo-Retinopathy of prematurity-(Argentina)
Patient's name: Mayra Noemi Roselo
Gender: Female
Age: 29 years
Nationality: Argentina
Disease Diagnosis: Retinopathy of prematurity
Before treatment:
The patient's vision was impaired in both eyes after preterm birth, with slight light perception and blurred recognition of light sources approximately 3-5cm away, with a slightly better condition in the right eye.
Past Medical History:
The patient was a 24-week preterm birth with a birth weight of 1.2kg. She did not have autonomous breathing at birth and was treated with ventilator and high oxygen supplementation (specific details are unknown). She has undergone surgery for cataracts in the left eye, but there was no significant improvement in her vision after the surgery. She has no history of chronic diseases or infectious diseases, no history of trauma or blood transfusion, and no history of drug allergies.
Physical Examination Upon Admission:
Patient's blood pressure is 126/77 mmHg, heart rate is 72 beats per minute, and oxygen saturation is 98%. She is normal in development, well-nourished, with no jaundice on her skin. His respiratory sounds are clear in both lungs, with no dry or moist rales heard. Her heart sound is strong and regular, without obvious murmurs. Her abdomen is flat and soft, and there are no abnormalities felt upon palpation of the liver and spleen.
Nervous system examination:
Patient is alert and oriented, with normal memory, calculation ability, orientation, and comprehension. Her pupils are equal in size and round. She had cataract surgery on her left eye and has a cloudy white substance in her right eye without a reflex to light. Fundoscopic examination: The fundus of her left eye shows a pale yellow color in 2/3 of the field with poor blood vessels, arterio-venous ratio of 2:3, and a clear optic disk. Due to vitreous fibrosis in the right eye, the retinal blood vessels are difficult to see, with 1/2 being pale yellow and 1/2 orange-red. Her forehead furrows are symmetrical, and swallowing is normal with intact hearing. She has full range of motion in her neck, and her muscle strength is grade 5 in both upper and lower limbs. Her muscle tone is basically normal in both upper and lower limbs. Her deep and superficial senses and coordination movements are without significant abnormalities. She has an active physiological response to stimulation of the four limbs and a negative sign of meningeal irritation.
Treatment process:
The patient was admitted with a clear diagnosis of "Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)". She was treated with mesenchymal stem cells and neural stem cells to repair the retina and optic nerve, provide nutrients to the retina and optic nerve, improve circulation, regulate immunity, and provide comprehensive visual rehabilitation.
Post-treatment:
The patient's condition is improved. She starts by having difficulty locating the light source, but gradually becomes sensitive to light sources. She can see shadows of objects placed 30CM from her eyes, and is able to differentiate between fingers and count their number.
