Before treatment:
The patient was a premature baby. She was born at 32nd week of gestation as a result of premature rupture of amniotic sac. She was placed in an incubator after she was born. She had pneumonia because her lung was not fully developed or matured. The local hospital treated the infection and oxygen therapy was also given. She had epilepsy which was treated by the doctor. She was discharged 2 months later when she became stable. She took antiepileptic at home. At the age of 5 months, her family members found out that she couldn’t move her limbs as flexible as other children at the same age. The local hospital diagnosed her with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. She didn’t take antiepileptic at the age of 3, because she didn’t have epileptic seizure. But she had epileptic seizure again at the age of 9. She couldn’t breath, her face was purple and the seizures lasted for 10 seconds. She had seizure a few minutes later. She went to the local neurology department and took carbamazepine and butaylone till now. She hasn’t experienced epileptic seizure in 2 years. She had dyscinesia and cognitive disorder. She could chew and swallow. Her four limbs had automatic action. She could hold a bottle to drink water with her right hand, but not with left hand. She could turn over her body in the supine position, but not in prone position. She couldn’t sit-up, stand or walk. She had bad intelligence and comprehension. She could only speak “papa” ”mama”, but she has no other pronunciation. She always sleeps and when she wakes up, she is always upset. She always bite her hands. Her hearing was normal. But her vision was bad. She only winked her eyes when the light was turned on during the night. Her family wanted a better life, so she came to our medical center and was diagnosed as cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

The patient always sleeps and easily gets upset during daytime. Her diet was normal. She uses paper diaper and her urination and defecation were normal in color and volume.

Admission PE:
Bp: 105/75mmHg, Hr: 107/min, body temperature: 36.4 degrees. Height: 133cms, weight: 21kgs. The skin and mucosa were normal with no yellow stains or petechia. The respiratory sounds in both lungs were clear, with no dry or moist rales. The heart sound was strong. The cardiac rhythm was regular, with no obvious murmur in the valves. She had abdominal muscular tension. Her liver and spleen were normal. There was no edema in both lower limbs. ALT and AST were higher than normal.

Nervous System Examination:
Shirley Ananias Burgos was alert and her spirit was good. She could speak simple words such as “papa, mama”, but she couldn’t say long sentence. She couldn’t communicate with others and responds slowly. She couldn’t cooperate with orientation, calculation and memory examination. Both pupils were equal in size and round. Both pupils were sensitive to light stimulus. The eyeballs movement was flexible. There was nystagmus. She couldn’t cooperate with putting her tongue out of mouth. Her uvula was in the center of her oral cavity. She could chew and swallow. The movement of neck was normal, she could raise her head. The muscle tension of four limbs was a little higher. She could extend her upper limbs. Both lower limbs could bend but not extend. Her right ankle could be bent to 160 degrees, left ankle bent to 140 degrees. Her four limbs had autonomic activities. She couldn’t cooperate with muscle power examination. She could turn over herself, but she couldn’t sit-up, stand or walk. Both side abdominal reflexes was abnormal. Both side radial periosteal reflex, biceps reflex, tendon reflex and ankle reflex were normal. Both side sucking reflex was positive, both side Babinski sign was positive. She couldn’t cooperate with other examinations.

Treatment:
After admission, she was with diagnosed 1.Cerebral Palsy 2. Secondary Epilepsy 3. Hepatic Dysfunction. The patient received 4 times stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells injection to regenerate new nerve cells, improve the blood circulation, nourish the neurons, relieve her convulsion and protect her liver. This was accompanied with physical rehabilitation treatment.

Post-treatment:
After 3 weeks of treatment, her vision has become better. She could see the object moving around her. She was more sensitive to light. Her psyche was better. She could speak more words. When she wakes up, she would be less upset. She could cooperate with rehabilitation training better. She bites herself less when she was excited. The muscle power of neck and back are better. She can sit and hold up body with elbows and knees well. The epilepsy has been controlled well, she has stopped taking butaylone. Her liver function is normal.
