Name: Mathieu de Graaf
Sex: Male
Country: France
Age: 20
Diagnosis: Sequelae of spinal cord injury
Days Admitted to the Hospital: 35

Mathieu suffered an accident 18 months ago while diving. Below the neck and chest, there was a loss of normal motor functioning and sensory deprivation. He was conscious and did not have breathing difficulties. He was sent to the hospital and received an X-ray and it was discovered that he had a fracture of the cervical vertebra 5. He received surgery on his neck to remove the hematoma, followed by bone surgery. Three months later, the arms started getting some movement and sensation back. One year and two months ago, Mathieu received his first stem cell treatment in Germany. After the treatment, the motor functioning of the arms had been partially restored. The forearms, wrists and fingers were unable to bend or stretch completely. Eight months ago Mathieu underwent his second round of stem cell treatment, but this time there was no obvious improvements. After being discharged from the hospital, he received physical rehabilitation training and experienced a partial loss of sensation in his right arm, about four months ago. Currently, Mathieu uses specially designed utensils for eating and specially designed gloves to help him type on a computer. He was able to maintain a proper sitting and standing posture. A decision was made to come to Wu Stem Cells Medical Center for further stem cell treatment.

During the examination of the nervous system, Mathieu was alert and his speaking was fluent. His memory, calculation abilities and orientation were normal. Both arms had limited mobility. The elbow joints were unable to bend or stretch out completely, and had difficulty with pronation and supination movements. The wrists could be flexed and stretched. Both hands had difficulty with movement. There was no spontaneous activity in the legs. The muscle tone of the arms was almost normal. The tendon reflexes of both arms were normal. The muscle tone of the legs was low. The patellar tendon reflexes were reduced. Both knees and the right ankle had clonus. There was moderate atrophy in the thenar muscles. Above the bilateral T4, the deep and shallow sensation was normal. The deep and shallow sensation on the right side T4-T12 was diminished. Below the T4, the deep and shallow sensation on the left side had disappeared. Mathieu was unable to perform the finger-to-nose test, rapid rotation test or the heel-knee-shin test.

Before the treatment, we gave Mathieu a complete examination and the diagnosis was clear. He received stem cell activation treatment which included specialized treatment to nourish the neurons and improve the blood circulation to increase the blood supply to the damaged neurons. He was then administered the stem cell injections. We also gave him daily physical rehabilitation training.

After the completion of the treatment, the ability of Mathieu to control the movements of his arms and raise them has increased. The muscle strength of the entire body has increased by 1-2 level. Both arms can do pronation and supination movements better. Both hands now have independent movement and actions. The muscles of both arms and hands are fuller than before. The range of motion of the shoulder joints and elbow joints has increased; the contracture of the elbow joints has been noticeably alleviated. When the legs are bent at the knees passively, the muscles contract and can be controlled for several minutes. The overall muscle strength of the body has increased. While Mathieu is in the sitting position, the muscle strength of the lower back is improved. The tactile sensation is better than before. The abdominal reflexes are improved. The knee and ankle clonus has been alleviated. The blood circulation in both legs has improved. There is no longer swelling in the legs whenever Mathieu sits for extended periods of time. Mathieu is satisfied with the treatment results and gave his thanks to the doctors and the other medical staff members. He enjoyed his stay at Wu Stem Cellls Medical Center.
