11 years ago the patient suddenly fell when she walked without obvious inducement. She went to the local hospital and was diagnosed with "multiple sclerosis". The patient's condition was in an unsteady state, occasionally swaying from side to side when walking. Interferon injections began 7 years ago once a week but her condition did not improve and 2 years later she stopped using it. Three years ago the patient's condition was aggravated, her left leg was weak when walking, it was hard for her to raise her legs and her balance function was decreased. A year ago she came to our hospital for treatment. After treatment her exercise endurance was improved and the strength of the left limb was increased. The balance function was also better than before. At present the strength of her left leg is still weak, she can walk slowly and independently and she cannot stand on her left leg.
Her spirit, diet, sleep, urination and defecation functions are all normal.
Bp: 125/86mmHg, Hr: 76/min, body temperature: 36.6 degrees. Height: 151cm, weight: 56Kg. Nutrition status is good with normal physical development. A surgical scar of about 10cm can be seen on the lateral side of the left elbow with good healing, there is no blausucht and no throat congestion. Chest development is normal, the respiratory sounds in both lungs are clear with no dry or moist rales. The heart beat is strong with regular cardiac rhythm and no obvious murmur in the valves. The abdomen is soft and flat with no masses or tenderness. The liver and spleen are normal, shifting dullness is negative, spinal column is normal and there is no edema of the legs.
Patient is alert and her mental status is fine. She has clear speech, her memory, orientation and calculation abilities are normal. Both pupils are equal in size and round, diameter of 3.0 mm, react well to light, with no visual field loss and with horizontal nystagmus. Bilateral forehead wrinkle and nasolabial groove are symmetrical, she can make tongue extend out as normal, no tongue muscle atrophy and showing teeth is normal. Her neck can move freely. Muscle tone of the 4 limbs are normal, muscle power of the right arm is 5 degrees, of the right leg is 5- degrees. Left arm muscle power is 4 degrees, abductor muscle strength is 3 degrees, (limited movement due to pain during abduction after traumatic surgery) left leg muscle power is 3 degrees. The feet dorsal stretch ability is weak. Tendon reflex of the right body side is basically normal, the left arm tendon reflex is not elicited, the left leg is active. The abdomincal reflex cannot be induced, the bilateral Palm-jaw reflex are negative. Hoffmann sign of both sides are negative; Babinski sign of both sides are positive, the bilateral ankle clonus are positive. Sensory examination is normal. Finger to nose test is not accurate or stable. Fast alternate movement of the left side is clumsy, fast alternate movement of right side and finger to opposite movement are basically normal. Both sides Heel-knee-tibia test are normal. Romberg's sign is positive. She cannot stand with one leg without support, she can stand with the right leg, she can walk slowly and independently but she could not walk straight. The meningeal irritation sign is negative.
After the admission she received 3 nerve regeneration treatments (neural stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells) to repair her damaged spinal cord and brain nerves, replace dead nerves, nourish nerves, improve body environment, regulate her immune system and improve blood circulation. This was combined with rehabilitation training.
After 14 days treatment her muscle power got better with the muscle power of her left leg increased 20%, she could move her shouders better, raise her arms easier and her hands can do fine movement better. The muscle power of her left leg was increased 20%, she could now move the joints easier, her walking posture got better, her balance function was better and her movement endurance increased.
