Another ALS patient unresponsive to conventional Riluzole treatment halts disease progression at WMC: Regains clear speech, achieves over 30% improvement in overall motor function and eliminates joint pain.
Mr. Novica Kos, a handsome and astute 50-year-old gentleman from Serbia, was unfortunately diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). For more than 8 months, he had been suffering from progressive limb weakness, dysarthria and joint pain. Despite receiving active local treatment with riluzole, he had to discontinue the medication due to severe side effects.
For an adult, the age of 50 shines with the accumulation of work and life experience, a time when one’s potential comes to fruition. Though afflicted by the disease for over 8 months, Mr. Novica Kos never ceased pursuing a high quality of work and life. As his disease progressed relentlessly, his daily activities and social interactions became increasingly restricted. The thought of “treating the disease at its root and halting its progression” lingered in his mind for a long time. After he and his family searched extensively for relevant treatment information, the remarkable improvements achieved by ALS patients who had undergone stem cell therapy at Wu Medical Center (WMC) stood out prominently among a sea of information.
As a senior Doctor of Neuroscience and a world-class, top-tier clinical specialist in stem cell therapy, Dr. Wu possesses a unique and original technology for treating ALS—the combined neural stem cell & mesenchymal stem cell + CAST therapy. This treatment has earned wide recognition and an excellent reputation among patients worldwide. Numerous ALS patients, a condition regarded as an “incurable disease” globally, have experienced the medical miracle of halted disease progression and alleviated symptoms after receiving treatment at WMC.
Dr. Wu’s original therapeutic technology for neurological function recovery—the combined neural stem cell & mesenchymal stem cell + CAST therapy—integrates cutting-edge biological therapies, well-established rehabilitation therapies and his over 40 years of rich experience in comprehensive clinical treatment. These unique clinical techniques are continuously evolving and advancing, enabling ALS patients to halt disease progression, alleviate symptoms and enhance quality of life in a faster, more effective, more stable and longer-lasting manner.
Following 2 weeks of inpatient treatment, Mr. Novica Kos achieved at least a 30% improvement in various aspects of his bodily functions.
Before treatment: His speech was slurred and unclear.
After treatment: His speech becomes significantly clearer.
Before treatment: Muscle strength for neck rotation, shoulder shrugging and upper limbs was Grade 3, with poor resistance to external force.
After treatment: He can now resist considerable external force when rotating his neck, shrugging his shoulders and flexing/extending his biceps and triceps, with muscle strength improved to Grade 5-.
Before treatment: Left hand grip strength was Grade 2, right hand grip strength Grade 3+; he was barely able to grasp with his left hand, and finger strength was poor bilaterally. He could hold a pen only with his left thumb and index finger (the remaining three fingers were non-functional), while his right hand could hold a pen but not resist external force.
After treatment: Left hand grip strength improved to Grade 4+, right hand grip strength to Grade 5-; he can grasp others’ fingers with both hands, with markedly enhanced resistance ability. Finger strength in both hands has increased: he can hold a pen with all fingers of his left hand and resist external force; his right hand can hold a heavier penlight and also resist external force.
Before treatment: His rapid alternating hand movements were slow, and he had poor performance on the finger-opposition test (only the index fingers of both hands could complete the movement).
After treatment: His finger-opposition test performance has become more flexible—he can now complete the movement with both the middle and ring fingers bilaterally; his rapid alternating hand movements have also become faster and more agile.
Before treatment: Left lower limb muscle strength was Grade 3, right lower limb muscle strength Grade 4; he was unable to stand on a single foot. He required bimanual support to rise from a bed or sofa, with slow movement speed.
After treatment: Muscle strength of both lower limbs has reached basically Grade 5, and he performs much better on the bilateral heel-knee-tibia test than before. He can stand on each leg unilaterally for up to 10 seconds. He is now able to stand up from a seated position and a low position independently without arm support, with notable improvements in speed and flexibility during movement.
Before treatment: He had increased muscle tone and hyperactive tendon reflexes in all limbs.
After treatment: Muscle tone of all limbs has returned to basically normal; tendon reflexes of both lower limbs are only slightly increased.
Before treatment: He suffered from frequent joint pain.
After treatment: Joint pain has been significantly relieved.
Today, Mr. Novica Kos’s ALS progression has been halted. His speech is clearer, his overall motor function has improved by an average of over 30%, and his joint pain has completely disappeared. He no longer looks sickly and listless. All these incredible symptom improvements have brought back his confident smile.
We aspire to accompany more ALS patients like Mr. Novica Kos to experience the cutting-edge dual stem cell + CAST therapy at WMC—a treatment that transcends conventional medicine. Our goal is to help them halt disease progression, improve motor function and enhance their quality of life.
